Virtual Team Building Games

Meaningful communication is vital for any team. It strengthens relationships and supports personal well-being. Trust is strengthened, a personal bond is built and you feel included. Teams should have a strong focus on regular team discussions and give this topic space. But, how does it work if you never meet in person?

We introduce you to a few methods that we were excited about.

Quiz

There are tons of different quizzes that are not only fun, but also provide an opportunity to learn more about your colleagues. A great provider is Kahoot. There you can create your own puzzles and share them with your colleagues using a quiz pin.

Topics can range from food and drink to vacation spots, facts about colleagues or sentences to fill in (If I were a hero, I would be ...)

Playlist

Create a common playlist. Whether on Youtube, Deezer, Spotify and Co. A common playlist is fun, you get to know something about your colleagues and can even get to know new songs and bands for yourself.

Lunch together

A random generator is used to determine who orders lunch for whom. Simply order from Lieferando and Co. for your chosen colleague at an agreed time. Of course, that only works if Lieferando is available to everyone. Alternatively, you can also look for restaurants that deliver to the place. Then they eat together via video conference. It is important to share a list of addresses and allergies in advance so that no faux pas happens and you don't have to reveal who drew whom.

PechaKucha

A topic is considered in advance: Either your own idea (well suited for new teams) or maybe “the last vacation”, “my childhood”, “my favorite hobby”; etc. Then everyone creates a presentation with 20 pictures on the topic. Without text. Depending on the size of the team, it makes sense to turn it into an offtopic PechaKucha event and maybe meet for a coffee remote at lunchtime or in the evening for a beer or a glass of wine. Then everyone presents their presentation one after the other. It is important that you only have 20 seconds to present each of the 20 slides. So you focus on the essentials and it doesn't deviate. The nice thing about this method is that you already have a lot of fun creating the presentation. If the team is very large or you don't want to invest any extra time after work, you can always include it after a Daily, for example. Then a different employee presents his presentation every day.

Photo Competition

How about a photo competition?

You can specify a topic for this or you can let your imagination run wild. Everyone has one week to submit their picture. In the end, a winner will be determined and she will receive his or her winning picture or a framed collage of all pictures as a prize.

Various games

Painting together: one person describes a picture and everyone else has to paint it. At the end, all the funny pictures are shown.

Charades when you have a good internet connection

You can play many board games online, but you can also mature into the classic variant. If everyone has Monopoly at home or perhaps another game, everyone builds it up and then we play together step by step.

Here are a few great sites to play online:

tabletopia.com; brettspielwelt.de; boardgamearena.com
